“Before I Die” interactive art to be installed August 5 at Chicago’s Hotel Florence Annex at the Pullman State Historic Site
CHICAGO – Normally, writing on buildings in Chicago is frowned upon. But a new piece of interactive art to be installed Sunday, August 5 at Chicago’s Hotel Florence Annex in the historic Pullman neighborhood is being placed there specifically so people may write their hopes and dreams directly on the building.
The Chicago Urban Art Society and Good News Only present “Before I Die” starting August 5 through October at the Hotel Florence Annex at 111th Street and St. Lawrence Avenues. The building’s windows will be painted and stenciled starting at 9 a.m. August 5, and later in the day anyone may start adding to the art their thoughts about what they would like to see or experience before they die. It’s sort of a public interactive art “bucket list” originally conceived by New Orleans artist, designer and urban planner Candy Chang.
The Good News Gallery and the Chicago Urban Art Society have brought this world renowned art installation to six other neighborhoods across Chicago, and this is the first installation on the far south side. More information about the project is available at

The Pullman State Historic Site, which includes the Hotel Florence Annex, is administered by the Illinois Historic Preservation Agency.
